P10 our reading The draft and its process model

Preparing before publication

Do the work that is useful whichever way the ballot goes: process owners, criteria, records, an impact analysis that sets targets, and exercises that test them.

Basis: Our reading, from the public scope and the held clause set. The draft text is not public. This page reads the public scope and the held ISO 22301:2019 clause set, and does not quote either as draft text.

01What applies

The draft may change before publication, and its text is not available. The preparation that survives that uncertainty is the work ISO 22301 already requires: a process inventory with named owners, criteria and records for each operational process, an impact analysis that sets and justifies the recovery targets, a strategy that traces to those targets, plans derived from the strategy, an exercise programme that tests the plans, and an evaluation that updates them. If the draft publishes, the organization compares its process sheets with the model and closes the difference. If it does not, the organization has a better BCMS against the standard it is certified to.

02Why it matters

A buyer should not spend money on speculation. This page defines the no-regret work and protects the budget. It also gives the kit its shape: the register and the dated plan are the no-regret work, not a prediction about the draft.

03What good looks like

Pick the three processes with the weakest evidence and fix them this quarter. Put the process sheet, the criterion and one record in one folder per process. Set a review date after the expected publication and decide then, with the real text in hand.

04Evidence an auditor asks for

Ask what the organization would do differently if the draft never published. If the answer is nothing, the preparation is sound. If the answer is everything, it was speculation.

EvidenceThe record
No-regret listThe work that is useful under either outcome, with owners and dates
Evidence packOne folder per process with sheet, criterion and record
Decision dateA review date after the estimate, with the comparison method agreed

05Where it commonly fails

  • Rebuilding the BCMS for an unpublished draft
  • Waiting with no no-regret work underway
  • A plan that depends on a date ISO has not committed to

06What to do before the estimate

Write the no-regret list with three items and dates. Book the review after the estimate.
