How the draft relates to ISO 22313
ISO 22313:2020 is the published guidance on using ISO 22301; the draft adds a process reference model. They answer different questions and work together.
Basis: Our reading. The public record names neither ISO 22313 nor a relationship to it. The draft text is not public. This page reads the public scope and the held ISO 22301:2019 clause set, and does not quote either as draft text.
01What applies
ISO 22313:2020 is the published guidance on the use of ISO 22301. It explains the requirements clause by clause and is available today. The draft's public scope describes a process reference model aligned with ISO 22301, meeting ISO/IEC 33004 criteria, and an operational view of the BCMS. The two are complementary in practice: 22313 helps a reader understand what a clause asks, and the model describes the processes that deliver it. The public record does not state a relationship between the two documents, and this site does not claim one. A buyer holding 22313 already has the guidance; the draft would add a different lens.
02Why it matters
The question a buyer actually asks is whether to wait for the draft or use what is published. The honest answer is that the published guidance covers the requirements today, and the draft is not available. Buying a kit should not mean waiting for a draft. This page makes that clear and helps the buyer allocate effort.
03What good looks like
Use ISO 22313:2020 for the clause guidance now. Use the process sheets to describe how the organization delivers each clause. When the draft publishes, compare its process set with the sheets rather than starting again.
04Evidence an auditor asks for
Ask which guidance document the team uses for clause interpretation. If the answer is the draft, nobody can be using it, because it is not public.
| Evidence | The record |
|---|---|
| Guidance baseline | The clause guidance the organization uses today, with its edition |
| Process sheets | The process descriptions that will be compared with the draft |
| Decision note | A note on what the organization will do when the draft publishes |
05Where it commonly fails
- Waiting for the draft instead of using published guidance
- Citing 22313 as if it were a requirement
- Planning to rebuild the BCMS when the draft publishes
06What to do before the estimate
Confirm the edition of 22313 in use and write the one-paragraph decision note.
