What is a BCMS process reference model?
A description of the BCMS as a set of processes, each with a purpose, a set of outcomes and the interfaces it shares with other processes. It describes what the work is for and what it must achieve, rather than stating a requirement, so capability can be judged separately from conformity.
Process, purpose, outcome
A process is described by why it exists and what must be true when it has worked. A business impact analysis, for example, exists to establish what disruption would cost over time and to set recovery priorities; its outcome is a set of recovery targets that trace to the impact analysis and are used by the strategy process.
What makes it useful
It changes the audit question from whether a template was completed to whether the process produced the outcome the next process needed. That finds handoff failures a clause checklist misses.
What it is not
It is not a new set of requirements, and it does not replace ISO 22301. The public scope of the draft describes the model as meeting ISO/IEC 33004 criteria; that standard is not held on this site and its content is not stated.
